Diversity Champion: The diversity champion is a student (undergraduate, graduate, or professional school student) who has tried to exercise self-awareness, actively engage and understand other cultures, mentor other students across race/ethnicity/culture, advocate for safe spaces for others, and share their stories and experiences.
Inclusive Excellence: The Inclusive Excellence Award is given to a faculty or staff member who has contributed to fostering a climate of inclusion and belongingness that supports the success of students from marginalized backgrounds. Their actions include, but are not limited to, creating inclusive pedagogy, developing best practices or initiatives, and inclusive and intrusive advising, mentoring, etc.
Departmental Diversity Champion: the departmental award is given to a department/unit/school or college that has demonstrated ADEI by providing training to faculty and staff; conducting scholarly research; contributing to recruitment and retention of diverse faculty, staff, and students; creating inclusive practices and policies; developing internal diversity committees and/or reallocating resources to projects or initiatives that enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Outstanding Program: The outstanding program of the year is given to a program, center, or office that provided excellent support to students through cross-cultural engagement, learning, academic support, workshops, and other activities that contribute to the retention and graduation of our students.
Above and Beyond Award: These two awards are given to an SIUC or community member who has exemplified outstanding support of ADEI through service to student’s faculty, and staff. This includes participating in community service, writing, speaking, teaching, and/or mentoring that have created positive changes.
